Question How long does it take to install a SwitchriteTM unit?
Answer Installation of our unit takes about 30 to 40 min. and by one person. It can be done quicker after you have installed one or two.
Question What tools are required to install a SwitchriteTM ?
Answer Tools to install a unit are Spike Maul, two RR spikes, one 1/2" ratchet, 1/2" socket extender, 1/2" socket, 3/4" socket, 1-1/8" socket and matching open end wrenches.
Question Can the SwitchriteTM unit be seen from both directions?
Answer The SwitchriteTM can be seen from both directions from at least a quarter mile distance.
Question What maintenance is required on the SwitchriteTM unit?
Answer When the switch is cleaned and graphited, the reflectors should be be wiped off with cleaner and a rag.
Question How well does the SwitchriteTM hold up?
Answer Switchrites have been in service on several railroads for three years and are still operating as new. Reflectors can be replaced individually if damaged for a very low cost. The SwitchriteTM housing is constructed of 11 gauge powder coated steel and can withstand impacts from hanging equipment.
Question What color of reflectors are available?
Answer Any color combination that your railroad uses can be ordered including blue.
Question On what types of track are your units installed?
Answer Railroads and Commuter lines are using our product on their main line and yard tracks.
Question What will the SwitchriteTM show if a switch is run-through?
Answer Two colors will show on both sides of the unit to alert the train crew of a problem and give them additional time to stop the train. This is seen in several photographs on our Solutions and Video pages.
